AARON, also known as Aaron the Levite, according to the Bible was the brother of Moses. He was the great grandson of Levi and he became the first High Priest of the Hebrews. Aaron grew up in Egypt where he gained followers and audience due to his eloquent and persuasive speech. When the Pharaoh of Egypt ordered the release of the Israelites, it Aaron who preached for his own people. The Eastern Orthodox Church celebrates his feast day on September 4.
